How do you want to feel this year?

Welcome to the new year and the new decade! I am so grateful to get to share life with you, to learn of your hopes, dreams and desires and to do my best to help you make them come to fruition.

I have a long history of creating resolutions which often didn’t work. In hindsight, I think it was because, my heart was not invested in the full picture of what I wanted. In other words, it was easy to make a list of changes, but I was not fully envisioning the future once I made them. I was not living in my heart, but more in my head.

A few years ago, I learned about the practice of setting a one word intention for the year. I LOVE this practice. It is one that fully engages the heart while initiating change.

Here’s how it works:  Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and think about what is the one word that most exemplifies what you wish for this year. In the past, my words have been things like, RECEIVE, LISTEN, HEAL. This year my word is PRESENCE.  

There are many big things ahead for me personally and professionally this year. I am planning a move to the suburbs, my son’s bar mitzvah, a wedding and of course building my business. I am exhilarated about all of it and want to remember to stay calm and to enjoy the now rather than spending every minute in the planning.

What is your word? What comes to you when you do this practice? Listen to your inner voice and hear what you need most.

Once you know the word, hang it on a post- it note, write it on your desk, make it a screensaver- keep it in your mind and in your vision. I promise it will make a difference. Let me know how it shifts things for you.
